My friend Kesha is experiencing problems with her Dane of 2 years old ... he is a very muscular Dane and is experiencing muscle spasms in his right hind quarter... he is yelping with pain and has collapsed a couple of times .... the Vet thinks it might be neuroligical... they ruled out Wobblers... he is on muscle relaxers and pain meds... has anyone ever experience this ? do you have any advice to share please ?...

I know this may sound obvious, but is our friend sure there was no recent trauma?

Also, has she tested for thyroid disease? As for diagnosis, hypothyroid is rampant, and rampantly underdiagnosed.

Signs of thyroid disease:

Thyroid cancer
Increased organ weights, altered thyroid hormones
Loss of appetite, underactivity, convulsions, whining, barking, crying
(vocalization), body twitches/tremors, overactivity, salivation,
stiffened limbs, unsteady gait, incoordination, labored breathing
Reduced fertility, decreased litter size and body weights in litters,
fetus mortality
Severe moist inflammation, ulcerations, skin sloughing, chemical burn,
itching, hair loss at and beyond the application site.

It is a good idea to get tested if they are coming up empty.

I agree with the idea above, possible injury should be ruled out. Did the Vet do X-ray?

other ideas;

Growing pains; like human teenagers Great Danes can go through a fast growth stage that causes pains, spasms & limping. It can last for a few months. Human Glucosamine tablets can be given for that.

How is the dogs appetite? any digestive problems? vomiting? and is the dog lethargic?
The above symptoms in conjuction with spasms & pain means Addisons Desease should be ruled out.

We hope it is not serious and passes soon.
