Today we got a Great Dane from Bridge City TX. This dog was hit by a truck and left for dead. Luckily a good samaritan picked him up and took him to her vet. After having x-rays done, it was determined that the dog has a complex fracture and a shattered hip and he will need to have surgery to reconstruct his leg.

As you can imagine, this surgery is very expensive. The rescuer sent emails out to try and find someone to take the dog, but nobody came forward. That is until we got the pleading email. PAWS agreed to take the dog and provide him with the surgery and treatments he needs.

We now have the dog who was named- Jake. Jake is determined to be about 2 years old. He is a Harl/Mantle and he is so very sweet. He loves everyone and he is so happy to be alive.

In order for PAWS to help Jake, we need YOUR help. Please consider making a donation to help Jake. Anything will be helpful and greatly appreciated. Consider it a "gift of life".

To make a secure on-line donation, please go to PAWS website's How You Can Help page.

On the same note, we would like to thank Don Hilbert for his generous donation. It is greatly appreciated!

Thank you!!

Look at that sweet face, poor baby, he's going to be gorgeous when fattened up!
Is it ok if I repost on Facebook and another Dane forum?

We found out that Jake’s injuries are pretty bad. His hip is completely shattered and caved in. The vet who was going to do the surgery said that he does not have the expertise to do it and we need to find a specialty orthopedic surgeon.

We started calling different clinic to find a vet who could do the surgery. We found out that this kind of surgery usually cost about $4,000. Of course, as a rescue we do not have these kind of funds, so we are considering the option of amputation.

After making calls all day, Courtney called to say that Central Texas Specialty Hospital came through and offered their services at a discount price of $2,000. That is an awesom offer, but although this is huge discount, it is still a lot of money, especially for a non-profit organization.

So we are now asking for your help to raise the $2,000 for Jake’s surgery. We hope that you would find it in your heart to make a small donation to support this precious boy. Any amount you could contribute will be helpful.

To help Jake, please go to PAWS’ website and go to the Special Need page. www.pawsofaustin.org

We made a small donation. I wish we could do more, and maybe in the coming week or so we will be able to. I just hope the small donation will help! If there is anything else we can do, please let us know!

Please do not feel bad that you cannot make a big contribution. Anything helps and it adds up. The fact that you donate means a lot to us.

So far today, members of the Austin Great Dane meet up group have helped us raise $435. That is awesome. Thank you to all those who took the time to send their donations.

As for Jake, he was picked up from the hospital this morning. He is now in a foster home (Courtney's house) and he is resting comfortably.
